FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New York- Today, March 11, 2024 –– In response to CHUBB’s decision to back former President Donald Trump’s $91.6 million bond in the E. Jean Carroll case while denying restitution for thousands of child sexual abuse survivors, the Coalition for Just and Compassionate Compensation (“CJCC”) –  an independent alliance of survivors of child sex abuse, their representatives, and advocates seeking full restitution for survivors of child sex abuse – released the following open letter to the Board of Directors at CHUBB Insurance:

Dear Board Members of CHUBB Insurance,

We, the Coalition for Just and Compassionate Compensation, are reaching out with concern over your decision to post a $91 million bond for Donald Trump. This action is perplexing given the serious allegations against him and contrasts sharply with your ongoing mistreatment of childhood abuse survivors in New York State and across the country seeking justice.

Your company’s “Code of Conduct” speaks volumes about integrity, respect, and responsibility, highlighting a commitment to human rights and fair treatment. The decision to support Trump, facing a defamation judgment from allegations of sexual misconduct, appears contradictory to these principles. It is impossible to reconcile CHUBB’S willingness to financially support someone deemed liable for sex abuse with its ongoing denial of just compensation to child sexual abuse survivors.

Therefore, we call upon CHUBB Insurance to:

  • Reevaluate its decision-making processes to ensure they align with the company’s stated values of integrity, respect, and responsibility, particularly in relation to the rights and dignities of sexual abuse survivors.
  • Publicly affirm its commitment to supporting the principles and goals of the Child Victims Act, demonstrating solidarity with survivors of childhood sexual abuse.
  • Stop employing legal delay tactics and commit to engaging in sincere efforts to justly uphold insurance policies that have been consistently respected in previous years.

We urge you to align your business actions with the high ethical standards you claim to uphold, and strongly encourage the Board to re-evaluate the company’s approach to childhood sexual abuse claims. By working collaboratively with advocates, CHUBB can demonstrate its dedication to ethical business practices and become a true partner in resolving these sensitive claims.

We await your response and actions that reflect true ethical leadership.

Sincerely,

The Coalition for Just and Compassionate Compensation
