In Major Court Decision, Judge Dismisses Chubb Lawsuit Against Archdiocese of New York, Paves Way for Chubb to Pay CVA Survivor Claims

NEW YORK, NY (December 15th) – Today, a key lawsuit between Chubb Insurance and the Archdiocese of New York was dismissed in the favor of the Archdiocese, making clear that Chubb’s frivolous attempt to skirt its obligations to survivors of child sexual abuse is just that. The Coalition for Just Compensation (“CJCC”) issued the below statement:

“On paper this is an encouraging development, but we have every expectation that Chubb will continue its tactics to delay and deny survivors the just compensation they deserve,” said David Catalfamo, Executive Director of the CJCC. “Consistent with their demonstrated, off-kilter moral compass, we are preparing for Chubb to appeal the decision. While this will be a frustrating development when it happens, it is expected, and the CJCC will continue to advocate for and defend the best interests of survivors for the long haul. For now, this is a step in the right direction.”
